Can’t Find a 3D Model? Create Furniture in CGKIT AI Studio

“Put this sofa by the window.” The client attaches a photo, and you can already guess how the search will go: plenty of similar models, none of the right one. One has different arms, another the wrong upholstery, and a third has its chaise on the opposite side.

Once you have checked the libraries and the manufacturer’s website, you can try creating a 3D model from an image in CGKIT AI Studio. Prepare a clean furniture reference, clarify its construction and generate a model to assess in your scene. We will walk through it with an armchair, using real inputs, settings and test results.

The example chair is an invented design: terracotta bouclé, a rounded back, a separate cushion and four wooden legs. We have tested it before, including a few unpleasant surprises: extra supports and a black cube that once became part of the 3D model.

1. Choose a photo that makes the shape clear

For a specific sofa, start with a photo of the actual product. “A beige sofa with a low back” leaves too much room for interpretation: it produces new furniture when you need a particular shape.

A useful reference shows the entire object, ideally in a three-quarter view, with the front, side and base visible. A coffee table, a throw over an armrest or deep shadows beneath the seat hide details. The system has to infer missing construction from the available clues, and you still need to check the result.

If you are designing furniture for a scene, start in Image mode with a description. Here is an example for our chair:

One armchair with a rounded back and a separate thick seat cushion. Terracotta bouclé fabric, four straight wooden legs. Three-quarter view, the entire object in frame, a neutral grey background and soft studio lighting. No decorations or other objects.

If you already have a suitable image, proceed to 3D without generating another one.

2. Fix the image before generating geometry

Zoom in and count the legs. Check that the cushion is distinct from the frame, the arms match and there are no stray objects nearby.

In an early test, a small black cube stood beside the chair. It was included in the geometry along with the furniture. Removing it at the image stage would have prevented this. We also changed the legs from pale oak to dark walnut:

Keep this chair, its upholstery and shape, but replace the pale oak legs with dark walnut. Remove the small black cube from the floor. Keep the camera angle, grey background, shadows and all other image details unchanged.

Inspect the entire object after each edit. In another run, the chair acquired extra legs. Getting the right upholstery colour does not guarantee that the construction remains intact.

3. Upload your reference in 3D Model mode

In AI Studio, select 3D Model, upload the image and wait for it to be prepared. Then click Continue in 3D. This route uses your photo directly, without requiring a newly generated image.

Check the source image in the dialog. Use the 3D Instructions field to clarify details that could get lost when the shape is reconstructed. For the chair, we entered the following instructions in Russian:

One freestanding armchair. Exactly four separate dark walnut wooden legs: two front and two rear. Preserve the rounded back, separate seat cushion and terracotta bouclé upholstery. No extra supports, plinth or unrelated objects.

For a sofa, “two sections, chaise on the right when viewed from the front” is more useful than “maximum quality.” Instructions clarify the task; you still need to inspect the generated model. The screenshots show the Russian interface, including “3D-модель”, “Продолжить в 3D” and “Инструкции для 3D”.

4. Choose settings and check the final price

For the chair, we selected Normal · textured model, 1.5M polygons and PBR materials. The Create 3D button showed a total of 225 tokens. This covers one new 3D run; preparing the source image is separate.

For furniture in the background, such a dense mesh may be unnecessary. More polygons will not correct the wrong shape or guarantee convincing bouclé loops in a close-up.

Check the total before starting. In the tested interface, the PBR surcharge label did not match the change in price: enabling it increased the total from 200 to 225 tokens, although the label said “+15.” Pricing and the interface may change after an update.

5. Rotate the result, especially the back

In the model generated by Hunyuan 3D 3.1, the four legs, rounded back and separate cushion were preserved. The back was reconstructed, with no unrelated objects beside the chair. The downloaded GLB contains 1,500,000 triangles and three embedded 4096 × 4096 maps; the file is about 92 MiB. The upholstery in the viewer nevertheless looks noticeably smoother than in the source image.

Download the model as GLB, OBJ or FBX.

Start with the parts that are barely visible in the photo: the rear of the backrest, the base and the leg connections. Then check the side silhouette and the gap between the seat and frame. For a sofa, also inspect the section count, chaise position and seat depth.

Compare the model with the reference, rather than judging it only from the viewer’s attractive opening angle. High source resolution alone does not guarantee detailed fabric texture.

6. Check the model in your working scene

Download the result and assess its scale, smoothing, materials and appearance from your camera. This article tests the workflow through to the 3D result; we did not separately test import into 3ds Max or rendering in Corona or V-Ray. PBR availability does not confirm a ready-made material for a particular renderer.

If the furniture must match a specification, compare it with the manufacturer’s dimensions and additional photos. For a general composition, the result may work after some preparation. A close-up of a specific product may require manual refinement or modelling from drawings.

Start with one object in AI Studio: a clean image, clear construction, one 3D run and a careful inspection. You will then have a practical basis for judging how much work has been saved and what still needs your attention.
